Blackburn South Cricket Club

History

Blackburn South Cricket Club was formed in 1964 and has bee affiliated with the Box Hill Reporter District Cricket Association since this time.

1966/67 - Club formed by Ross Knight, Senior Master at Blackburn South High School. U14 and U16 sides entered in BHRDCA. Ron Fyfe first President

1968/69 - First senior team entered into D Grade

1970/71 - C2 grade premiers

1972/73 - 3 senior teams entered

1979/80 - Bob Dingle appointed as Playing Coach. B Grade premiers, home ground was at Haliday Park, Mitcham due to contruction works at BSHS

1983/84 - Exclusive use of 3 ovals at Mirrabooka. E. Zareba appointed Playing Coach. Premiers in A2 & B2 grades. A1 & C grade runners-up.

1984/85 - New temporary club-rooms delivered. 8 senior sides entered, 4 make the grand finals. A1 grade lose Grand Final after making 407.

1985/86 - A1 & A2 sides are premiers, 7 sides entered, 5 play in the finals. 118 players used. First "Sportsman Night" & Cup Day functions held. First X1 promoted to Shield Grade.

1986/87 - D1 grade preniers, 8 senior teams, 126 players used. "Sportsman Night 2" held.

1987/88 - No senior teams make the finals. U/16's runners-up. 7 senior teams. 116 players used. Last "Sportsman Night" held.

1988/89 - 6 senior teams, 97 players used. Only 1 team makes the finals.

1989/90 - 5 senior teams. A2 premiers. 71 players used. First XI finish 5th for the 5th year in a row.

1991/92 - W. Ibbot appointed coach. 5 senior sides, 3 make the finals. 63 players used.

2000/01 - A.Duncan appointed Playing Coach. Junior teams resurrected after a 9 year absence. 3 senior teams. 47 players used.

2001/02 - 1st X1 lost Grand Final to Eley Park, 3 senior teams, 56 players used. Merger talks mooted.

2005/06 - 1st X1 lost Grand Final to Koonung Heights. 4 senior teams, 70 players used. C. Harper appointed Captain/Coach. 5 Junior teams plus Under 10's and Milo squad.

2006/07 - 1st X1 lost Grand Final to Burwood District. 4 senior teams, 3 made the Grand Fianl, all lost. C. Harper continued as Captain/Coach. 6 Junior teams, 3 made semi-finals. Under 10's and Milo continued. C. Harper and J DeHaas win competition averages.

2007/08 - C. Harper continues as Captain Coach. No senior teams make the finals. 3 Junior teams make finals with U16A's and U12C's reaching the Grand Final. 

2008/09 - M.Webb appointed Captain/Coach. 8 out of 9 teams make the finals with 4 reaching the Grand Final. (A1, U18, U16b, U12c). Seniors lose GF by 7 runs. U18's by 20 runs, U16's by 1 wicket and the U12's tie. Rebecca Magee becomes the first female senior player at the club.
